All the more reason NEVER to mount a gas heater on a wooden
platform! Always use a concrete or other type of non-flammable base. The homeowners
were very lucky in this case, because the fire did not spread to the wooden siding right next to
the deck platform.
A clogged heat exchanger originated this fire. Eventually, the
heat exchanger leaked (more like "spewed" water into the fire chamber under
pressure, which forced the gas (and the flames) downward. Obviously, this heater is
totalled.
